Among WordPress web designers, there is a constant war raging: Divi vs. Elementor. Who will come out on top? Who will take the crown? The truth is, everyone wins, as long as you’re using WordPress. What makes a website is not so much the theme or plugin you use, but rather, the manner in which you use these tools. At the end of the day, the Divi vs. Elementor discussion is simply a matter of deciding which tool will build the website of our dreams. There isn’t and will never be an answer to the question: what is the best WordPress theme. Instead, we will try and compare what we consider to be the most popular contenders in the field, according to us, of course.

Speaking of building websites, here’s some foundational things you need to learn when it comes to building your WordPress website. Stay close by now, we’re going in!

What is a theme?

When you go on the Toyota website – or the website of most car manufactures – you have the opportunity to build your own car. Notice that you can only pick certain colors, with certain wheels, with certain packages. That’s what a WordPress theme is like. It’s a combination of styles, colors and layouts that you can mix and match to make your perfect website.

What is a page builder?

A page builder allows you to decide on the contents and layouts of the individual pages in your WordPress website. You’ll still need a theme, but a page builder allows you to get into the nooks and crannies of your website on a page by page basis. For the most part, a page builder is a type of WordPress plugin.

When should I use Divi?

In my personal opinion, if you’re looking to have a theme installed on your website, you should go the Divi route. I also find Divi to be an easier stepping stone for those who are looking to get started into web design as a web designer.

When should I use Elementor?

If you already have a theme, and would like to add to it, I’d recommend using Elementor. Elementor at it’s core is a WordPress plugin. Divi is a WordPress theme. However, don’t let this fool you! Elementor is just as powerful as a plugin as Divi is as a theme.

Do I need both?

No. As I mentioned before, Elementor is a WordPress plugin whereas Divi is a WordPress theme. Therefore, it would be overkill to add both to the same website build. Most WordPress themes come with a page builder already installed. It is now common place for themes to come with pre-built landing pages and/or dummy pages which you can then use the pre-installed page builder to customize or completely rebuilt.

This is why I use the WordPress theme Divi.

It’s an easy page builder and WordPress theme wrapped up into one. I’ve built over 50 websites with Divi and every client is able to edit content, update the photos and much more, long after I’ve given them their website. All the websites listed below were built on Divi.

Some have calendars and some have galleries. Others have online stores and some have extensive blogs:

None of them look the same. Go ahead. You can visit the URLs listed abovee and take a look at the real live websites.

Yes. They’re all built on the exact, same WordPress theme. Divi.

A page builder like Elementor allows you to use any theme you want, and build upon that using the modules that come default with Elementor. Though Elementor is not a theme, you can download a basic theme from them which is called Hello Elementor that will allow you to use their powerful builder to create the website of your dreams.

So who is the winner in Divi vs. Elementor?

No one. At the end of the day, it is up to you to decide on what is the best theme or page builder for you to use for your business. No one can make this choice for you. You can only make it for yourself.
